Geneco’s 2023 #GreenForProsperity CNY campaign spotlights biodiversity conservation efforts

Geneco, Singapore’s No. 1 residential electricity retailer, announces this year’s Chinese New Year (CNY) campaign, #GreenForProsperity, with red packets featuring four illustrations of local wildlife in Singapore—birds, herons, butterflies, and fishes.

The designs of the red packets draw attention to Singapore’s rich native biodiversity, reminding Singaporeans of the importance of protecting our thriving natural habitat while encouraging progression in conservation efforts.

For the second year running, Geneco has partnered with Garden City Fund (GCF), a registered charity established by the National Parks Board (NParks). This collaboration ensures Singaporeans today can continue encountering a wide variety of native species in the natural surroundings of the city.

Professor Leo Tan, Chairman of the Garden City Fund said, “We are encouraged by Geneco’s continued support to engage with our community, raising awareness of our native biodiversity and the benefits of planting trees. Through this partnership with Geneco, we highlight the importance of conservation and encourage community action, so that current and future generations can continue to appreciate and co-exist harmoniously with our flora and fauna.”

A modern spin on biodiversity

The design of the red packets have always played an important role in Geneco’s yearly CNY campaigns. The birds, herons, butterflies, and fish motifs featured in this year’s design aim to remind Singaporeans of the true meaning of prosperity; by inspiring them to look deeper into our green spaces and be amazed by the rich biodiversity that can be discovered within our nation. Accentuated by lush golden elements and a dynamic series of lines, the elegant designs depict the vibrancy of native wildlife, celebrating what it has to offer.

Mr Alex Chan, Head of Marketing at Geneco said, “We are excited to continue contributing and inspiring Singaporeans about simple ways of adopting a more sustainable mindset. With the collaborative help of our supportive partners, this initiative has become a yearly tradition in Geneco’s green milestones. Aligned with Singapore’s Green Plan 2030, Geneco is dedicated to transforming Singapore into a City in Nature. Along with our Plant-A-Tree initiative with NParks where we have committed to planting 250 trees over 5 years, we look forward to creating more impactful initiatives to cement our belief in driving the sustainability-led narratives and actions with our partners and the public.”

Red packet recycling efforts

Geneco continues to collaborate with various organisations towards a sustainability-led cause, hoping to inspire Singaporeans to make a change for a more sustainable future.

To aid in the campaign’s recycling efforts, CRU, IUIGA, REFASH, Wisma Atria, Tay Paper Recycling and OTO, a health and beauty retailer in Singapore who joined the list of participating partners for the first time this coming initiative, will place Geneco-branded recycling bins across 30 retail and office locations to encourage the recycling of used red packets amongst the public from 3 January to 31 March 2023.

“At OTO, we believe in running a socially and environmentally responsible business and are thrilled to be able to collaborate with Geneco on this meaningful initiative. We recognise the importance of our ecological habitat conservation and are always on the lookout for ways to implement greener actions into our everyday lives. With Geneco as a partner, we are taking a step in the right direction and are thrilled to see this partnership flourish.” said David Yip, Director of OTO Wellness.

Boosting awareness through social media contests, key public figures

Geneco will be launching two phases of social media contests to encourage the public to partake in their #GreenForProsperity campaign.

  1. The first contest will encourage Singaporeans to comment on wildlife that they have spotted alongside in which local green space, to stand a chance to win red packet sets alongside $28 eCapitaVouchers. This contest will run from 28th December to 15th January 2023, and 100 lucky winners will be selected from Geneco’s Facebook and Instagram platforms.
  2. The second contest will run from 16th January to 12 February 2023 to name a recycling bin location, and tag three friends in their submissions. 40 winners will be selected across Facebook and Instagram to win $28 worth of eCapitaVouchers each.

Local prominent artistes and key opinion leaders including Rui En, Jesseca Liu and Tay Kewei will also be supporting the initiative to raise awareness among their audiences. Additionally, 888 of Geneco’s customers will be sent two exclusive sets of red packets upon successfully registering their interest via a Geneco e-direct mailer.

Geneco’s donation to pledge commitment for #GreenForProsperity

Geneco will be donating $10,000 to contribute to the biodiversity conservation and research efforts made by NParks’ Garden City Fund to showcase their commitment towards protecting local wildlife in Singapore. In order to reach this donation goal, Geneco is aiming to collect a total of 10,000 pledges in an effort to encourage the public to be a part of this initiative. To achieve this, pledges can be made online on Geneco’s campaign page and a sum will be donated on their behalf.

This year’s #GreenForProsperity campaign marks the third consecutive year in the running for Geneco’s Chinese New Year campaign, where the brand continues to reinforce the brand’s purpose of ‘Power The Change’ with the unwavering goal to inspire the community and encourage eco-advocacy through meaningful partnerships and public interaction.

Alongside the Plant-A-Tree activations, Power Eco Add-on, and the most recent ChargEco joint venture with Strides Mobility, Geneco will continue to cement its commitment in driving the uptake of green initiatives to pave the way for a greener Singapore.
