With 2012 being the year of Sustainable Energy for All, Green Drinks has partnered Nexus-Carbon for Development and Lien Centre for Social Innovation for a talk, discussion and Q&A on carbon financing in relation to Rio+20, sustainable development, and the road to a green economy.
Partnership Director Raphaele Deau and Alliance Director Suzanne Chew at Nexus-Carbon will lead the talks and participate in the discussions, and Bhavani Prakash from Eco Walk the Talk and Green Collar Asia moderates the discussion and Q&A section.

About this session
In the context of a green economy and the road to Rio+20, access to energy and clean water will be central in eradicating poverty and delivering sustainable development.
However, the reality of energy access in “at risk” geographies such as Least Developing Countries, remote and rural communities, is still far from what will allow these populations to strengthen their economies, safeguard their environment and achieve equitable development.
Carbon finance has shown tremendous potential in supporting these goals, but has often been misused. Nexus-Carbon for Development, a non-profit global cooperative of development practitioners, will present best practices of carbon finance and demonstrate how it can, and should, serve a green economy in the context of poverty eradication and sustainable development. The presentation will be based on practical case studies, developed by NGOs across Asia.

Raphaele Deau, Communications and Partnership Director
With an international relations education background, Raphaele has gained communication and PR skills over the last 12 years as group account director for the communications and advertising company Ogilvy Action and as Cultural Program Officer in the diplomatic service of France. In 2009, Raphaele joined the GERES-Nexus team as Communications Manager to raise the international profile of their work. Convinced that the private sector has a role to play in the climate change arena, she took over the position of Communications and Partnership Director at Nexus in early 2011.
Suzanne Chew, Alliance Director
Suzanne’s background is in carbon finance and strategic management consultancy, with a strong interest in sustainable climate change mitigation and social impact. As the Alliance Director of Nexus, Suzanne is responsible for driving a united yet adaptive approach across Nexus members, to make climate finance work for low-carbon development projects.
She previously worked at McKinsey & Company in strategic management consultancy, specialising in 2006 in the climate change sector with TFS Green, a global commodities firm, where she held the position of Regional Manager, Carbon Markets.
Suzanne graduated with Honours in Physics from Imperial College London, with a Masters in Environmental Technology, majoring in Environmental Economics.
