The grass is greener on Sussex Lane

Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP will roll out the green grass carpet for two days next month, rechristening Sussex Lane as Pop Sydney, with mood lighting, lawn bowls and a giant screen.

“During the day, you will be able to stretch out on the grassed lawn, escape the office for some fun or enjoy lunch in the open air,” the Lord Mayor said.

“Then at night, speakers will discuss inspiring ways to make our city greener.”

“It’s a taste of the city we’re working towards, with locally produced energy, less waste and better use of water.”

Pop Sydney: Sussex Lane coincides with the national Green Cities 2012 conference in Sydney, which brings together the latest thinking, ideas and solutions from the world’s leading green building professionals – the City is a major sponsor of Green Cities.

Two booked-out night-time events will add an exclusive buzz to the laneway, with a range of experts and environmental champions sharing their ideas and simple tips to live green each day.

Tuesday 6 March 2012: GreenUps – sustainability and the city

Those who missed out on spots at the night-time talks can still soak up the atmosphere at one of Sussex Lane’s restaurants or small bars after 6pm.
