New Singapore Apex CSR Awards open for submissions

Singapore Compact for Corporate Social Responsibility (Singapore Compact), with its co-presenting partners the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) and The Business Times, is inviting companies to submit their entries for the inaugural Singapore Apex CSR Awards.

This new national corporate social responsibility (CSR) Awards aim to showcase the highest level of CSR excellence in Singapore. The Awards is supported by the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources. KPMG in Singapore is the knowledge partner of the Awards.

Mr Kwek Leng Joo, President of Singapore Compact shared the thinking behind this new national Award: “Integrating CSR in business has been proven to propel corporations worldwide to achieve sustainable growth and a balanced triple bottom line. Since its inception in 2005, Singapore Compact for CSR has strived to help businesses and stakeholders achieve sustainable development through capacity building activities and advocating thought leadership in Singapore. This apex Award, which aims to recognise corporations that excel in responsible business practices, is one of Singapore Compact’s key initiatives to raise awareness and drive adoption of CSR. We hope that this Award will set a national benchmark for CSR best practices and inspire more companies to map out their sustainability strategy.”

Mr Ian Hong, Partner, KPMG in Singapore, acting as knowledge advisor for the Singapore Apex CSR Awards, said: “A holistic communication of business performance helps companies stand apart from their peers in an increasingly competitive global marketplace. The progressive criteria and rigorous assessment methodology of the Singapore Apex CSR Awards provide such companies with an opportunity to tell their value-creation story. Recognising their achievements provides a benchmark for other companies aspiring to better sustainability practices.”

Mr Alvin Tay, Editor, The Business Times said: “In today’s complex business environment, companies are increasingly being evaluated on their “triple bottom line” reporting of their social, economic and environmental performances. They must strive to adopt best sustainability practices and demonstrate a willingness to openly engage with their stakeholders and be transparent in their business activities. As the region’s leading business daily read by corporate leaders and the investing community, we place a high premium on issues of transparency and corporate governance in our daily news coverage. We are pleased to be a co-partner of the inaugural Singapore Apex CSR Awards 2015 and to share the successes and best practices of companies that have embraced sustainability reporting as an integral part of their business culture.”

To be given out annually, the Awards is open to both listed and non-listed companies. To level the playing field for companies entering the Awards, the entries will be segmented to two categories:

  • Large Companies: Singapore incorporated companies with revenue of $300 million and above*;
