M1, SingTel and StarHub keep promise to clean beach

–First environmental collaboration by Singapore’s telcos–

Singapore, 21 March – Today, Singapore’s three telcos—M1, SingTel and StarHub—fulfilled their promise to their customers to clean up a section of East Coast Park (ECP) together. The joint beach cleaning exercise was in response to their challenge to customers to forego shopping bags when they shopped at the telcos’ outlets from Monday, 18 March 2013 to Wednesday, 20 March 2013.

Happily for the environment, the ‘penalty’ was sportingly carried out although the target of 2,303 declined shopping bags was not met. The figure of 2,303 was symbolic as it signifies the date of this year’s Earth Hour.

This was the first joint environmental effort by the three telcos, and was supported by a total of 134 employees from M1, SingTel and StarHub. Their two-hour effort netted a total of 87 bags of garbage along a stretch of the ECP.
