IGEM 2016 to promote green business for sustainability

The 7th International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2016), themed Green Business for Sustainability, will be organised from 5th to 8th October at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre with a focus on promoting green businesses in Malaysia and across the ASEAN region.

Organised by the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) and co-organised by Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia), IGEM is the region’s largest green technology business and innovation platform to promote the growth of the green technology sector. This year’s IGEM expects to draw in over 350 exhibitors from over 30 countries and targets business leads of RM1.5 billion.

Speaking about the upcoming IGEM, the Minister of KeTTHA, Y.B. Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili said, “IGEM’s solid track record has continued to position it as the region’s leading green technology event and as a central hub for developing green businesses within ASEAN. For seven years, IGEM has attracted leading industry players, trade commissions, government officials and visitors from around the world, to exchange innovation, expertise and knowledge, while generating cross-country business opportunities.”

“We will continue to enhance IGEM to offer not just the best showcase, but also unique conferences and complementing events that will further promote developments and investment opportunities within this ever-evolving industry,” he added.

Since its inception in 2010, IGEM has generated an estimated RM8.8 billion in business leads, with 2015 recording the highest at RM1.98 billion. Overall, IGEM has attracted over 300,000 visitors from over 50 countries including delegates, dignitaries and companies from China, Germany, Japan, Norway, Netherlands, United Kingdom and the United States of America.

IGEM has proven to be an effective business platform with three quarters of last year’s 350 exhibitors noting that they successfully met their business objectives, while half confirmed intent to participate in IGEM 2016.

Drawing from previous years’ success and exhibitors’ feedback, this year’s IGEM will once again focus on the five key pillars identified under the National Green Technology Policy, namely Green Energy, Green Transport, Green Building, Waste Technology and Management as well as Clean Water Technology and Management.

Recognising the growing demand and increasing potential in the renewable energy and sustainable vehicle sectors, for the first time, IGEM will feature a dedicated Solar Energy Zone and a Green Car Pavilion respectively. The Solar Energy Zone will be led by the Malaysian Photovoltaic Industry Association (MPIA) and Asian Photovoltaic Industry Association (APVIA) under the Green Energy pillar. Meanwhile, the Green Car Pavilion will showcase a range of energy-efficient vehicles including electric vehicles and charging infrastructure under the Green Transport area.

Alongside the exhibition, there will be a host of concurrent events aimed at encouraging networking amongst delegates and exploring new business opportunities. These include, International Buyer programme, MATRADE International Business Matching, MIDA Business Consultation and One-to-One Bizmatch programme.

IGEM 2016 will also feature three high-level conferences, namely the Minister-Industry Dialogue, ASEAN Business Leaders Conference and IGEMconference on Solar Photovoltaic themed ‘Bridging the Key Performers’ by MPIA and APIA.

Another unique feature lined up for IGEM 2016 is the MakerFest, an innovation and entrepreneurial programme organised in collaboration with the Asia School of Business.

GreenTech Malaysia’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Ir. Ahmad Hadri Haris said, “This year, we are teaming up with new parties to offer fresh content and make IGEM 2016 even more exciting. At the same time, we are retaining the staples of IGEM such as the conferences and business matching sessions as these have proven to be popular with our exhibitors.”

“I am confident that IGEM2016 will continue to be a strategic platform for our exhibitors to grow their businesses within Malaysia, while providing an opportunity for them to make inroads into the ASEAN region,” he added.

As of today, a total of six international pavilions from Japan, Korea, Singapore, Spain, and other European Union member countries have confirmed participation. Meanwhile, there are 200 booth spaces available for interested exhibitors to sign up for.

IGEM 2016 is supported by Malaysian Exhibition Services and Malaysian Investment Development Authority. To find out more about IGEM 2016, visit www.igem.my.
