Energy Leaders will front dialogue at SIEW 2013

Singapore – Delivering the opening keynote address at this year’s Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) will be the Chief Executive Officer of Qatargas, Sheikh Khalid Bin Khalifa Al-Thani. He will speak about how unconventional gas discoveries have revolutionised the global energy landscape.

Sheikh Khalid, who leads the world’s largest LNG producing company, will also offer Qatar’s outlook for gas supply and trade amidst these “New Horizons in Energy” – which is the theme of SIEW 2013. His speech will frame discussions at the Singapore Energy Summit (SES), where regional energy ministers and heads of global corporations come together in five discussion panels.

One panel will focus on the game-changing nature of new gas supplies and its knock-on effects, such as the development of a gas hub in Asia. It will involve Hiroshi Ozaki, President of Osaka Gas; Charif Souki, Cheniere Energy’s Chief Executive Officer; Amos Hochstein, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Diplomacy, Bureau of Energy Resources, US Department of State; and Gal Luft, co- Director, Institute for Analysis of Global Security.

Four other SES panel sessions will cover topics such as the rising use of fossil fuels, evolving global energy dynamics, Asia’s outlook and future energy needs, as well as the prospects for low carbon development and green growth. Key speakers on those panels include the Energy Ministers of Indonesia, Malaysia, and the state of Queensland in Australia.

SIEW 2013 will be held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre from 28 October to 1 November 2013. The early-bird registration for SIEW events ends on 30 September 2013.

This year, SIEW will also feature associated events such as the half-day Public Private Partnership (PPP) conference and seven enhanced roundtables, jointly hosted by renowned Singapore and international think- tanks. They are the Energy Studies Institute of Singapore of the National University of Singapore; Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS); Nanyang Technological University’s Energy Research Institute (ERI@N); the International Energy Agency (IEA); the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA); the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ); and the National Energy Administration of China.

SIEW 2013’s onsite partner conferences include the Platts Top 250 Global Energy Company Awards dinner, the Asia Future Energy Forum, Asia Smart Grid/Electromobility, Downstream Asia, Gas Asia Summit, PV Asia Pacific Expo and Conference and Singapore Electricity Roundtable.
