From schools to universities, educational premises are an excellent platform to promote the use of solar photovoltaic (PV) energy in the community at large, from classroom to mainstream. To date, Phoenix Solar has installed PV systems in more than 15 schools in Singapore and Malaysia, involving educators and students to raise PV awareness among the young.
Students receive first-hand information on how solar PV electricity works and the different technologies; in some cases; they also participate in the installation works under the supervision of Phoenix Solar. At the same time, educators are able to integrate the learning as part of their school’s environmental programme.
At university and polytechnic level, the PV installations not only provide a teaching opportunity about the technology and the related environmental, health and economic benefits, but also about employment opportunities in one of the fastest growing sectors in the world.
The Ministries of Education in Singapore and Malaysia have both launched green schools initiatives to educate our children on the importance of environmental sustainability. They see first-hand, the significant role of PV in displacing fossil fuels to generate electricity while serving the energy needs of a growing population.
In a world were 1.3 billion people have no access to electricity, making solar PV part of the educational curriculum helps build the necessary capabilities to serve the energy needs of the present and future generations.
