BASF site in Thane, India recognized for energy conservation

Mumbai, India– July 8,2013– Recognizing the efforts undertaken by industrial units, non-governmental organizations, architects, and builders in the area of efficient utilization, management and conservation of energy, the Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (a Government of Maharashtra undertaking) felicitated outstanding contributors at the 8th State-level Energy Conservation Awards. BASF’s Thane site was adjudged the second place winner in the “chemicals” sub-category of industrial units. 

“We are glad to receive this award,” said Mr. Prasad Chandran, Chairman, BASF Companies in India & Head South Asia. “As a global signatory to Responsible Care, we aim to reduce risk, enhance management processes and drive continual performance improvement, in order to attain operational excellence. The award serves as a motivation for us, to continue adopting innovative energy conservation measures in our manufacturing operations”, he added. 

Participating companies were screened and evaluated by an expert Committee of Judges, which considered factors such as innovative techniques and technologies adopted, commitment of the senior management, organizational set-up to promote energy efficiency and energy conservation in the unit. 

Thane is the first production site of BASF in India. Spread across an area of 9.2 hectares, the site currently engages in the manufacturing activities of textile and leather auxiliaries, coolants, polyurethanes and engineering plastics. It is ISO9000 & 14000and TS 16949 certified and serves as a key supply point for customers in the important western and northern markets of India.
