Alfa Laval joins 3rd Starch World 2014 in Jakarta, Indonesia

For the first time, at the 3rd Starch World 2014 in Jakarta, Indonesia, from February 17-19, 2014, Alfa Laval – a global supplier to the starch processing industries – presents a variety of innovative solutions with focus on raising plant profitability and product quality.

Alfa Laval is one of the world’s leading suppliers of equipment to the starch industry with more than 80 years of experience in hundreds of starch plants.

“Alfa Laval has taken inspiration from many years of experiene in potato starch process and applied to tapioca starch process because of the similarities. We offer a range of products and systems for tapioca starch production, featuring high reliability, low operating cost and excellent performance,” says Christian Landbo, Manager, Starch & Decanter Business at Alfa Laval.

At Alfa Laval’s stand at 3rd Starch World 2014, visitors will get the opportunity to hear about the company’s many widely recognized starch applications:

Concentration

Alfa Laval’s separators are optimal for potato starch production. They are designed for maximum separation efficiency, accurate control, minimum clogging and easy maintenance.

Starch washing

High performance and reliable operation characterizes our starch washing systems. High-quality materials and low tolerances in our hydrocyclones lead to efficient washing and very low levels of impurities in the end product.

Fibre dewatering

Using a decanter centrifuge results in cake with a significantly higher dry solids percentage than from a screw press, which leads to lower energy consumption in the drying stage.

Protein separation line

Protein is a profitable byproduct from starch production based on tubers. The first step in the protein separation line is a heat exchanger where the fruit water is heated to 100°C, causing the proteins to coagulate. The fluid is then cooled before the protein is separated from the water in a decanter centrifuge. Alfa Laval spiral heat exchangers are very good at handling high-fouling media and are the perfect choice for coagulating proteins. Alfa Laval’s STNX decanter offers highly efficient separation and recovers as much of the protein as possible.

Heating and cooling of process streams and utilities

We offer a wide range of gasketed and welded plate heat exchangers with high thermal efficiency, compact design, high uptime and low maintenance costs. You can easily expand the capacity of our gasketed heat exchangers by adding more plates at a later stage. Our special WideGap plate heat exchangers have been developed for handling fibrous media and offer minimal fouling.

Extending performance

When you choose the best equipment on the market, you should choose the best service and support to go along with them. Only then can you be sure that your processes move along smoothly, delivering the uptime you have come to expect of Alfa Laval equipment.

Conference

February 17 2014, 16:45 – Alfa Laval’s expert Christian Landbo will speak about “The Alfa Laval Process for improved starch quality” in Imam Bonjol & Thamrin Room, Level 3.
