Republic of Indonesia presents its energy policy at APEC Summit

Indonesia has presented its energy policy at the 19th Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit here.

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, at a press conference, at the end of his visit here on Sunday night, local time, said US President Barack Obama had asked him to present his views on energy efficiency and resilience at the summit.

“I presented the policy that we have carried out, are still carrying out and will continue to carry out in the future, to make Indonesia be part in the efforts to assure energy security and efficiency.

President Yudhoyono before the APEC leaders had also spoken about the country’s success in reducing the use of fossil fuel energy through kerosene-to-gas conversion.

The program meanwhile has also opened a gas canister industry worth US$2.5 billion that gives jobs to 40,000 workers.

Indonesia has also presented its policy in energy diversification to reduce dependency on fossil fuel and open a new opportunity to find more environmentally friendly sources of energy such as geothermal energy.

In connection with that, President Yudhoyono had offered cooperation in the exploration and exploitation of natural resources in the country.

“My hope is for us to cooperate in the fields of technology and investment so that we can produce more,” he said.

Indonesian, President Yudhoyono, is committed to continue to put in order incorrect subsidies that have the potential to pollute the environment by reducing the use of fossil fuel.

He said Indonesia conducts diversification in energy sources in line with the continuing economic development in the country.
