The Securities and Exchange Commission Philippines has taken a landmark step with Memorandum Circular No. 16 (December 2025), adopting the Philippine Financial Reporting Standards (PFRS) S1 and S2, aligned with ISSB. Mandatory reporting begins for Tier 1 publicly listed companies (market capitalisation above PHP 50 billion) covering fiscal year 2026, with first reports due in 2027.
This creates a critical but underserved gap: the boards and directors of these companies - who are now legally required to review and approve sustainability reports - are not yet equipped to lead on these issues with strategic confidence.
SEC’s planned practitioner training series addresses the technical layer: materiality assessments, value chain impacts, climate scenario analysis, and targets development. These sessions are essential and will be highly beneficial for core sustainability teams.
This masterclass is purposed at the layer above: A senior-level, strategic briefing that enables directors to ask the right questions, make informed decisions, and govern sustainability with the same rigour they apply to financial performance.
The masterclass is designed specifically for:
- Board directors and independent directors of Philippine publicly listed companies
- Board-level committee chairs (Audit, Risk, Sustainability, Governance)
- C-suite executives with board-level accountability: CEOs, CFOs, Chief Risk Officers
- Corporate secretaries and general counsels supporting board governance
Tier 1 PLCs (market cap above PHP 50 billion) are the primary target given their 2026 mandatory adoption timeline, but the content is directly relevant across all tiers.
