Opportunities in Energy and Resources Recovery from Wastewater

Wastewater is often seen as waste product. However, it is to a greater extent considered as a resource product instead. Creating valuable resources from wastewater and closing cycles stand increasingly in the spotlight. This presentation will focus on some key energy and nutrient recovery concepts that could be applied in wastewater treatment as achieve certain level of sustainability. It will also share some background of Energy and Resource Recovery as well as on applied technologies like advanced digestion, thermal pressure hydrolysis, biogas recovery, phosphorous and nitrogen recovery (by struvite production). The design goals and system boundaries as well as on financial feasibility and possible return of investment will also be discussed.
