Convene, converse, conserve: Green meetings for a green future

Nestled between an enchanting landscape of the 10-million-year-old rainforest and an 8,000-year-old fringing coral reef along Datai Bay, escape the hustle and bustle of city life and be captivated by the grandeur of The Andaman, a Luxury Collection Resort, Langkawi while being inspired by its magnificent natural locale and its rich traditions.

Awarded with the ASEAN Green Hotel Standard Award 2018-2020, the resort pays respect to its natural surrounding by practising various sustainable efforts that contributes to conserving Mother Nature. One of the many efforts include offering sustainable event and team building packages as an option to not only reduce waste but also to give back to nature.

“As a resort that takes pride in being eco-friendly, it is most apt for us to offer green and sustainable packages for our corporate clients,” says Iskandar Zulkarnain, The Andaman’s Director of Sales and Marketing.

Currently, the resort practices linen-free meeting setups, going digital in proposals and menus to reduce paper consumption and many more to reduce carbon footprint. However, for delegates wishing to play a bigger role in helping the environment, the resort offers a range of sustainable packages such as sustainable meeting, coral Team building and sustainable dining: Malam Alam Dinner.

Sustainable meeting

With the utmost respect for the local community and the inspiring natural environment, the team at Jala, The Andaman’s sustainable seafood restaurant, has curated a sustainable meeting package especially tailored to those who wish to think outside of the traditional indoor meeting space. Meeting planners and participants will be able to immerse themselves in a unique experience on Jala’s signature sand floor and bespoke Meranti table.

True to its sustainable pledge, the Sustainable Meeting setup uses water pitchers instead of plastic bottled water to reduce disposable plastic waste and minimize usage of linens going linen-less to reduce the use of detergent and chemicals that are harmful to the environment, as well as reducing energy consumption. Coffee breaks and lunch will reflect Jala’s sustainable setup, offering locally sourced produce, while black chalk-boards will replace the traditional flip chart, all in a venue that’s set in a venue close to nature with a beautiful view of the Datai Bay.

Sustainable dining (Malam Alam)

The Sustainable Dining or Malam Alam Dinner is an innovative beachfront dinner experience that further enhances The Andaman’s sustainability efforts. Electric power supply is swapped for candles, torches and bon fires, while coconut shells replace glassware, bamboo stems replace drinking straws and banana leaves replace crockery. Unplugged, acoustic entertainment is provided by the resort’s resident musicians while the Chefs prepare a specially selected feast using only locally sourced produce where possible. All in a hawker-style setting that is elegant, yet casual. Innovative, yet natural.

Coral teambuilding

As part of The Andaman’s ongoing coral and marine life conservation efforts, the team started a project to build an Artificial Reef Module System in the vicinity of the resort’s bay. Sustainable teambuilding at The Andaman involves the creation of concrete ‘Mini-ARMS’ to compliment this project, transplanting Corals under the expert guidance of our Marine and Coral Curator before relocating these Corals to the main Reef area using rafts built by delegates leaving them with a feeling of accomplishment, having made a real and tangible difference to the environment.

“It is our responsibility to encourage our clients in being more sustainable when it comes to hosting events. With these packages, events are not only eco-friendlier but also give clients an opportunity to host unique events while conserving our planet,” Iskandar adds.

From intimate gatherings to theme dinners to large conferences and weddings, The Andaman Resort infuses every occasion with unmatched style, expertise, and grace. More than 11,000 square feet of function space comprises a wide range of locations at the resort where ballroom, meeting rooms, covered foyer, and even beach and rainforest areas can be transformed into exceptional venues. The resort’s professional conference and banquet team will seamlessly take care of every detail of your event to help you organize an event that surpasses all expectations.
