BASF supports Chongqing’s development with sustainable solutions

Solutions for construction, automotive and agriculture and food industries

Technical seminar on building insulation board application

BASF at CCISF: Booth 4, Hall N5, May 16-19, 2013

Chongqing, China – May 16, 2013 – BASF, the world’s leading chemical company, is demonstrating its solutions for both industrial development and improving quality of life in line with BASF’s corporate purpose: “We create chemistry for a sustainable future”, at the 16th China (Chongqing) International Investment and Global Sourcing Fair (CCISF) from May 16 – 19, 2013. The solutions presented at the booth reflect BASF commitment to supporting Chongqing’s effort in leading the economic transition in West China as a regional hub.

“Demand for a better quality of life is rising in West China. In urban and rural areas alike, people all want to improve the living standards of their families and communities. At the same time the need for energy, water, food and other resources is also rising rapidly. Innovations for sustainability will be the key driver of growth and value creation in the future,” said Dr. Zheng Daqing, Senior Vice President, Business and Markert Development BASF Greater China. “We work closely with our partners in a variety of industries to achieve a balance between the demands of economy, ecology, and society to achieve a better quality of life.”

Energy efficiency in construction

Energy efficiency in buildings plays an important role in reducing energy consumption and improving living comfort.

BASF is demonstrating its strengths in energy-efficient construction by highlighting its advanced thermal insulation solutions from raw materials to system solutions, including Neopor® Innovative Foams, Elastospray® CH Spray Polyurethane Foam, Elastopir® CH PIR-core Laminated Board, and Finestone® EIFS (External Insulation and Finishing System) applicable to different climate zones, different fire-proof degrees and design requirements.

Additionally, MasterTop® and Ucrete® flooring system marketed under Master Builders Solutions® and Basotect® - an acoustic insulation material – are also showcased at the booth.

BASF is promoting the concept of a “passive house”, an integrated solution for energy efficiency building originating from Europe, and its potential application in China.

BASF is co-organizing the “Chongqing Forum on Building Insulation Board Development and Application” with Chongqing Municipal Commission of Urban-Rural Development, to support local development on energy efficient buildings.

Sustainable mobility

In response to the nation’s rising concern on air quality and energy saving, BASF, as the world’s largest automotive supplier in the chemical industry, is demonstrating its commitment to emission reduction and fuel efficiency in mobility.

The new China IV emission standard for heavy duty diesel vehicles, similar to the Euro IV standard in Europe, is scheduled to take effect this summer. As the world’s leading supplier of catalysts, BASF works closely with its automotive customers in China to help them comply with tighter environmental regulations with cost effective solutions. In addition, BASF is also the leading supplier of fuel performance packages worldwide. Keropur® gasoline performance packages protect the intake system of engines by preventing the formation of deposits and removing existing deposits. The cleaner engine system results in better performance, improved combustion and a longer engine life.

In addition, BASF is also showing advanced innovations in concept cars for automotive energy efficiency and sustainable urban mobility, such as light weight materials, sustainable coatings, as well as organic solar cells, etc.

Food and agriculture

Rising population and fast growing urbanization in West China create high demands on limited resources such as clean soil and water, while the need for high quality and safe foods in urban areas is growing. At the same time, many malnourished people live in under-developed areas in West China, who need attention and care.

BASF is implementing a food fortification program to increase intake of key nutrients in China. As West China has one of the highest deficiency rates of vitamin A and D, the program could be one solution to improve vitamin A and D nutrition situation in the area.

As a global leader in crop protection and a strong partner to farming industry, BASF provides fungicides, insecticides, herbicides, seed treatments and plant health products to optimize agricultural production and improve crop quality.

BASF also provides solutions throughout the dairy value chain in order to increase yield of forage, improve the quality of silage, and enhance the nutrition and health benefits of dairy products.

Sustainable production

The site plan of BASF’s MDI project, along with an exhibition board giving details of the project takes the center stage of BASF’s booth at the fair.

BASF is building a world-class MDI (diphenylmethane diisocyanate) plant in Chongqing with an annual capacity of 400,000 metric tons, and including a system house which will serve the West China market with tailor-made polyurethane solutions. BASF’s investment will total around RMB 8 billion, and world-class safety and environmental standards will be applied in the construction and operation of the facility.

MDI is a core component mainly used for polyurethane solutions that are used in major industries including construction, appliances, transportation and footwear to improve energy efficiency, level of comfort and convenience to daily life. The booth will also present the various applications of this versatile material.
