Work begins on Song Tranh No 4 hydropower plant

Construction of the Song Tranh No 4 Hydropower Plant kicked off yesterday in Que Luu Commune in the central province of Quang Nam.

The VND1.6 trillion (US$76 million) plant is one of the projects set out in the national power system development plan for the 2006-15 period.

The plant on Tranh River has a designed capacity of 48MW and will be able to produce 196 million kWh per year.

The plant’s two turbines are expected to connect to the national grid in 2014.

The operation of the plant will contribute to easing pressure on the national grid and help reduce flooding in the lowlands.
