Zero Summit Philippines 2023

Zero Summit Philippines 2023

Scholars of Sustenance (SOS), a global food rescue foundation, will host the inaugural Zero Summit Philippines, a multi-stakeholder gathering aimed at reducing food waste and combating food insecurity, on August 8, 2023, at Pin Wei, Seda Vertis North in Quezon City.

The “Zero to Hero”-themed summit aims to rally food industry leaders and sustainability advocates from academia, business, civil society, and government towards the vision of ZERO food waste and ZERO hunger by 2030.

SOS is spearheading a movement that promotes a sense of shared responsibility among academia, government, civil society and business to act, unite and deliver effective solutions to reducing food waste and empowering food rescue initiatives.

First held in Thailand in 2021, the food-focused Zero Summit sustainability events have since gathered key stakeholders to discuss food waste in the context of environmental and socio-economic problems and raised funds to provide meals for vulnerable communities.

Since October 2022, SOS Philippines’ programs have rescued approximately 148,728 kilograms of surplus food, served 625,300 meals, and reduced 363,852 kilograms of carbon dioxide that would have been produced if the food were wasted in landfills.
