Antimony Green Inc announces Pooran Dasai as keynote speaker for South African conference

Antimony Green announces BioRegional Development Group co-founder Pooran Desai will be keynote speaker at the Industrial Sustainability Conference in Johannesburg from May 23 to May 24.

Pooran Desai is currently Sustainability Director at BioRegional Quintain Ltd and the International Director for One Planet Communities.

Pooran studied at Oxford and Cambridge Universities before co-founding environmental organisation, BioRegional Development Group, in 1994.BioRegional is now an international network with offices in UK, Canada, South Africa and China.

He has worked in sustainable farming, forestry, recycling & eco-housing. In 1998, he drew together the partnership to construct Beddington Zero (fossil) Energy Development (BedZED), the UK’s foremost eco-village development where he lives and works.

Pooran is a founding director of specialist sustainable property development company BioRegional Quintain Ltd. The company has over 1000 zero carbon homes in the pipeline in the UK, including in Brighton, Middlesbrough, London and Rochester. BioRegional Quintain’s One Brighton development in joint venture with Crest Nicholson PLC is being heralded as the new benchmark for sustainable property development in the UK, achieving zero-carbon within a conventional cost envelope. First residents moved into One Brighton in summer 2009.

In 2002 he coined the term ‘One Planet Living’ which has led to an international initiative building sustainable ‘One Planet Communities’ around the world.

He has led BioRegional teams creating the overall sustainability action plans for major mixed-use projects including Mata de Sesimbra in Portugal, Barangaroo in Sydney and for the Masdar zero-carbon, zero-waste city for 50,000 people under construction in Abu Dhabi.
