Impressed with its capacity to outrun other luxury cars in the market, the editors of Automobile magazine have named the all-electric sedan Tesla Model S as ‘Automobile of the Year.’ The accolade is an achievement for the California start-up car company who had received a $465 million loan from the US government to develop the electric vehicle.

Apart from the other novelty features of the EV, it was the Tesla’s performance that most impressed the magazine’s editors, who noted how the electric-powered vehicle silently built up its speed to beat a BMW M5 in a race. Despite this accolade, questions still loom as to Tesla’s capacity to market and sell its electric sedan in a growing race to improve car efficiencies. Only 250 Tesla Model S cars have so far been delivered to new owners.
