Personal care company Shiseido has appointed Jiayun Fang as manager of corporate sustainability for Asia Pacific, covering regional markets outside of Japan and China.

Fang, who is almost a year and a half into her time with the company, takes on a role to support Shiseido’s newly set sustainability strategy, which is defined around environmental, social, governance and cultural goals, and supports the 148 year-old Japanese multinational’s ‘Beauty innovations for a better world’ corporate mission.

Shiseido is relatively new to sustainability, having first established a sustainability strategy in 2019. The company’s new Sustainable Beauty Initiative is organised in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, and focuses on four themes: clean environment, respectful society, enriched culture and trustworthy governance.

Among the company’s environmental targets are: carbon neutrality by 2026, use only sustainably sourced palm oil by 2026, use only sustainable (recycled, non-wood or certified) paper by 2023, and reduce waste from its factories to landfill to zero by 2022.

Based in Singapore, Fang reports to the corporate strategy and development department. She joined Shiseido as Asia Pacific life quality centre manager in 2018 from state investment firm Temasek, where she was associate director, sustainability and stewardship.

In her career, she has worked for Brazilian food and beverage firm BRF, where she managed communications and corporate social responsibility, and the Martime Port Authority of Singapore in community engagement and corporate communications roles.
