Malaysia’s MyPower Corporation, a special-purpose government agency which coordinates national electricty supply reforms, has appointed Asdirhyme Abdul Rasib as its new chief executive officer, effective 23 June 2025.

Asdirhyme previously served as the undersecretary of sustainable energy at the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (Petra). He succeeds Siti Safinah Salleh, who earlier this year was appointed to lead the Energy Commission, the statutory body responsible for regulating electricity and piped gas supply in Peninsular Malaysia.

The appointment comes amid a major restructuring of electricity tariffs for Peninsular Malaysia by the Energy Commission, which took effect on Tuesday. Network and retail charges have been lowered, but large energy users such as data centres face higher grid costs.

Siti Safinah had been appointed as the chief executive officer of the energy regulator in February as its previous head, Abdul Razib Dawood assumed the role of executive director at the Asean Centre for Energy (ACE), in line with Malaysia’s Asean chairmanship this year.

Asdirhyme’s appointment was confirmed by Petra in an official social media announcement last week.

Incorporated in 2011, MyPower is a special-purpose agency tasked with organising key reforms under the Malaysian Electricity Supply Industry (MESI) initiative.

The MESI initiative is a long-term reform framework aimed at enhancing the reliability, transparency, efficiency, and sustainability of electricity supply operations in Peninsular Malaysia. It addresses structural issues across the electricity value chain, including generation, transmission, distribution, and retail.

Last week, MyPower signed a non-disclosure agreement with Russian state atomic agency Rosatom Energy Projects to advance knowledge sharing for nuclear energy development. Malaysia is exploring the revival of its nuclear energy programme, which had been shelved following the 2018 cessation of operations by the Malaysia Nuclear Power Corp.
