The circular economy is an economic system that maximizes the re-usability of products and raw materials, and minimizes their devaluation. This system differs from the current linear system, where raw materials are used to manufacture products that are destroyed at the end of their shelf lives. The circular system has two cycles of materials. One of these, the biological cycle, which focuses on reuse of bio-waste streams and eventually return it safely back to nature. The second is the technical cycle, which seeks to ensure that products (and their components) are designed and marketed in a way that enables them to be re-used with the highest quality retention. Both cycles maximize retention of economic value. Consequently, the system is ecologically and economically restorative.
The workshop will provide the opportunity to a small group of leaders from both public and private sector in the water, environment, food and waste sector, to examine the entire lifecycle of a resources in the circular economy to answer the below three questions:
- How do circular economy concepts improve sustainability and liveability?
- What initiatives might reduce barriers and stimulate adoption of circular economy business models?
- What business opportunities does the circular economy provide?
At the end of the workshop, you will gain knowledge of science, technology and innovation in resource recovery and circular economy business models applicable in your industry. Together we will develop a roadmap for Singapore-Netherlands initiatives to enable the transition to a circular economy.
The workshop is by invitation only, however spots are still available for press representatives. Please register ASAP (19 April by the latest) by sending your RSVP to Alexander van Dorssen via Alexander-van.Dorssen@minbuza.nl. Please inform us in advance if an alternative participant is expected.
