Reed Exhibitions partners with Bloomberg New Energy Finance to launch the ‘Project Village’ at World Future Energy Summit 2011

Reed Exhibitions, the world’s leading events organiser, has announced its partnership with Bloomberg New Energy Finance, the world’s leading independent provider of news, data, research and analysis to decision-makers in the clean energy industry, to launch the inaugural Project Village at the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) 2011, which will take place at ADNEC from 17-20 January 2011.

Networking platform to present $4bn of renewable energy projects to potential investors

  • New feature for WFES 2011 Exhibition provides dedicated platform for renewable energy project developers to showcase energy solutions to investors and technology providers
  • Hopes for increased regional investment in clean energy projects as Gulf Cooperation Council electricity demand forecast to rise more than 6% a year to 2020
  • Multinationals, rapid growth companies and start ups to bring latest innovations to Abu Dhabi

Located at the heart of the WFES 2011 Exhibition, the Project Village will provide a dedicated platform for project developers from large multinational companies, rapid growth companies and start ups, to share their latest innovations, and discuss inspirational research and development projects with world leading technology and finance solution providers in this rapidly growing market. Developers will enjoy dedicated booths to showcase their projects and a theatre room to conduct full business presentations ensuring maximum exposure of budding projects during the exhibition.

Commenting on today’s announcement, Frederic Theux, President of Reed Exhibitions, said, “WFES brings together policy creators and business decision makers to help find solutions to the world’s energy challenges and the introduction of the Project Village is a key element to achieve this goal. For the first time at WFES, innovative clean energy project developers will have a dedicated platform to engage with the world’s leading technology and financing solutions providers, driving growth in this market.”

Latest figures from Bloomberg New Energy Finance suggest that increased domestic demand for energy, and in particular electricity, will drive future regional investment in clean energy projects in the GCC. Bloomberg New Energy Finance forecasts that electricity demand in the Gulf Cooperation Council could increase by 6 per cent a year to 2020, which is significantly higher than the global average of 4 per cent or the European average of 2 per cent. Bloomberg New Energy Finance and WFES hope that bringing project developers and investors together at the Project Village will help investment in clean energy projects in order to satisfy this demand.

Michael Liebreich, Chief Executive of Bloomberg New Energy Finance, added, “Our outlook for the MENA region is extremely positive. It has tremendous renewable energy resources, depth of knowledge in energy and finance. Masdar’s role in the region has been pivotal over the past few years, and projects such as Shams 1 in the UAE are continuing to set the pace. The World Future Energy Summit has become one of the key annual dates in the clean energy calendar; it will drive considerable activity in the region and worldwide. At Bloomberg New Energy Finance we are delighted to be supporting the Summit through our involvement in the Project Village.”

Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and hosted by Masdar, the Abu Dhabi based Mubadala company focused on developing commercially scalable sustainable energy solutions, the World Future Energy Summit is a unique business platform aiding the global development and commercialisation of renewable energy solutions.

The Project Village will be located on the exhibition floor of WFES to ensure the flow of visitors. The area consists of dedicated booths for project developers to show case their ambitious renewable energy projects and it includes a theatre style seminar room where the project village participates can conduct a 20-30 minute presentation in front of an interested audience. The project village will also be an ideal platform for one to one meetings between the project developers, the technology vendors, investors and financers. WFES organisers will implement an online appointment system for developers to book individual meetings with participating exhibitors ahead of the summit. Developers will be able to search for potential partners by name or business field and book an appointment instantly.
