REC supplies 1MW for commercial solar power plant installations in Japan

REC modules were selected for a 1MW solar power plant project in Ehime Prefecture in Japan.

REC will supply 1MW of solar modules in early 2012 for installations managed by REC’s business partner ADVANTEC. The company will deploy REC Peak Energy Series Modules across locations in Ehime prefecture in Shikoku, one of Japan’s four islands. Luc Graré, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing Cells & Modules, REC stated “We are committed to investing further in Japan and looks forward to the implementation of the new FiT (feed-in tariff) that will help to finance large scale commercial and industrial installations.”

ADVANTEC selected high performing REC Peak Energy Series Modules following an open evaluation of the highest quality modules on the market. The company supplies solar modules to the residential sector and is looking to expand system sales to commercial customers and utility and energy service companies in Japan. “REC was selected as our module supplier due to the excellent power output of their modules which are well suited for the large solar installations we are developing, in addition to European quality and REC’s commitment to invest here,” said Masahide Yamana, President, ADVANTEC. REC modules are ranked in the top position for energy yield in the Photon Module Field Performance Test, providing 6 percent more energy on average than competing brands.

REC has a silicon sales office in Tokyo and is expanding module sales activity locally. Japan is expected to become one of the largest solar markets in the world. REC modules will be on display at the ADVANTEC stand during PV Japan 2011 taking place at Mukuhari Messe in Tokyo from December 5-7.
