REC launches sophisticated solar monitoring facility for the first time in India

REC, a leading global provider of solar energy solutions, has been selected as the energy solutions partner for a key automotive component manufacturer in Chennai, East India.

As one of the largest vertically integrated and fully automated manufacturers in Southeast Asia, REC provides a comprehensive remote monitoring facility. It has partnered with TORP Systems Pvt. Ltd, a local engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) service provider for the project.

This is the first rooftop installation at two sites in India with a remote monitoring facility installed by REC. It includes a weather station and multiple sensors to collect weather information and energy yield data.

The statistical data will help to assess the performance ratio of the plant and monitor the output of REC’s high quality panels. The EPC scope provided by TORP Systems includes the design, supply, installation and commissioning of REC solar panels as well as associated balance of system equipment prior to grid connection.

REC is the exclusive solar panel supplier for the two rooftop projects that are commissioned by the automotive component manufacturer. For each project, it will feature a 210 kilowatt peak (KWp) rooftop photovoltaic (PV) installation using approximately 900 units of REC’s Peak Energy panels.

These made-in-Singapore solar panels serve to meet the growing demand for eco-friendly rooftop systems that work in conjunction with solar panel installations in India. With part of its electricity generated by solar, the two sites will be able to generate a total 676,000 kWh of clean energy and mitigate 600 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

Jen Tan, REC’s Vice President for Sales and Marketing in Asia-Pacific said, “REC’s Energy Monitoring and Control Centre is located in its operating headquarters and regional hub in Singapore. A team of experts work around the clock to monitor the performance of over 100 megawatt of systems at installation sites in Southeast Asia, Europe, Middle East and United States. In India, this is the first time that such a comprehensive solar monitoring facility has been introduced and installed during the construction phase of two solar projects. The system will provide real-time performance as well as store historical data.”

Monitoring can ensure corrective actions are taken early to secure the consistent high performance of a solar system. A solar PV system provides a long-term revenue stream and proactive maintenance activities and system monitoring are crucial to a system owner.

REC’s commitment to quality is proven by its very low products claim rate where less than 400 of the 4 million ‘made-in-Singapore’ panels are returned from the field. This attention to quality translates into high performing systems and secure clean power generation.

V. Ramakrishnan Director of TORP Systems said: “In India, TORP Systems is a premium solar EPC company with a focus on the rooftop segment of the solar industry. Its clients include L&T, Goethe Institute, BMW, ebm-papst, amongst others. We set a high benchmark in the system that we offer and solar panels form an integral part of our overall system. Only the best and highest quality solar panels will meet the mark for us and our customers. And there’s no doubt about REC’s pole position here.”
