As Malaysia moves to retire coal power by 2044, the country has an opportunity to turn retiring coal sites into clean energy hubs and accelerate the deployment of solar, storage and other renewable technologies.
The proposal would initially target about 700 large electricity users as Taiwan seeks to ease pressure on its grid from booming AI, semiconductor and data centre demand.
The Department of Energy will require clean energy plants generating at least 10 megawatts to integrate energy storage systems for grid stability. But the move could result in more expensive and fragmented storage units, warns industry association.
