SB LiMotive to supply batteries for Chrysler electric car

SB LiMotive announced Sunday that it will supply lithium-ion batteries to Chrysler for use in its Fiat 500 EV electric car from 2012.

SB LiMotive, a joint venture between Samsung SDI and Germany’s Robert Bosch, will manufacture lithium-ion cells in a newly-built production line in Ulsan.

The batteries, which consist of cells, a cooling system, safety device and battery management system, will be assembled by SB LiMotive’s U.S. subsidiary Cobasys in Ohio.

Earlier this year LG Chem was picked to provide electric car batteries to GM and Ford. With the latest deal, all three major U.S. automakers have tapped Korean firms for their electric vehicle batteries.
