Japan to roll out smart meters in the next decade

Japan will be installing about 80 million smart meters in the next ten years as it invests into smart grids. In line with this development, US firm Itron has recently partnered with Japanese electronics company Panasonic to develop a smart meter for the Japanese market. According to Itron, they will design and develop a smart meter solution for Panasonic that is capable of various communication options in order to meet not only the geographical requirements but also the specific business needs of Japan.
