Five Iban villages receive clean and treated water

Five Iban villages from Serian, Sarawak were overwhelmed when they received clean and treated water in their homes, thanks to the Rural Water Supply Programme (BALB) under the Rural Basic Infrastructure National Key Results Area (NKRA).

This project was led by the Royal Army Engineer Regiment (RAJD) troop leader Captain Sulaiman Sofian, who took charge of the project, following the implementation of various clean water supply projects by the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM).

The region’s two military headquarters has been given the trust to implement 27 rural water supply projects in the rural areas of Sarawak for the whole of this year.

So far, 20 of the projects have been completed under Government Transformation Programme (GTP) whereby ATM is engaged to help implement various projects in the rural areas.

This act would guarantee the safety and health of the villagers in the long run.

According to Angelina Sinyang Selama, 40, the villagers have been using dirty water from a dirty well for their daily chores and activity before the completion of the project.

Captain Sulaiman Sofian also explained that the water supply would go through a filtration system before being distributed to the villagers.

Ten personnel had been put in each village to ensure a smooth flow during the implementation of this project. The villagers had been very helpful as well, as many of them were there to help with the laying of the pipe lines and also plastering of the water storage tank.

Residents from Krangan Trusan, Krangan Jaya, Krangan Bam, Krangan Engkatak dan Krangan Tekalog in Serian are grateful and thankful for receiving the clean water.

According to Captain Sulaiman Sofian, “this is an early Christmas present to the villagers and all of them are happy because they will no longer experience brownish water even after a downpour”.
