Carbon market tie-up alarms Australia’s food industry

The scheduled link-up of the Australian carbon market to the EU carbon market in 2015 has raised calls for more support to local food processors. The partnership is set to create the largest emissions trading market in the world but Australian processors said their EU counterparts get more assistance with their emissions trading permits compared to them. The carbon market scheme, it said, could affect their global competitiveness. The Australian and EU governments are urged to review the market link-up in order to create a level playing field.
