In April 2017, the Prime Minister officially approved the issuance of Decision No. 11/2017/QD-TTg on supporting regime for the development of solar power projects in Vietnam, then the very first solar law-Government’s supporting regime for solar power projects in Vietnam was finally on the table.
According to the policy of Vietnam government, grid-connected solar projects are required to reach COD (commercial operation date) before June 2019, to get the FiT of US cents 9.35 per kWh (kilowatt hour). Given it also takes time to complete the signing of PPA, reach financial closure and commence construction, foreign developers need to identify capable local partners, sign JV, and take care of all concerned permits not later than May of 2018. In this regard, the practical matching-making between foreign and local is of demand at present.
