Cleantech Marketplace Forum @ Vancouver

Cleantech Marketplace Forum – Cleantech Marketplace Forum is a global platform facilitating the matching of cleantech companies with low carbon technologies or solutions, against projects, investment and financing and vice versa, across Asia Pacific, Europe and North America. The objectives are to bridge the critical gaps between low carbon technologists, project developers and financiers/investors, and help drive low carbon, climate resilient, sustainable growth and increase investment in the deployment of proven technologies to address climate change challenges.

Companies will be able to participate in other Cleantech Marketplace Forums held around the world in places such as Silicon Valley, Vancouver, Geneva, Dubai, Beijing, Hong Kong and Singapore, tapping on regional cleantech events by Global Cleantech Cluster Association (www.globalcleantech.org) or local partners. The
format could be investment conferences/ luncheons or speed dating sessions, with business networking and matching opportunities.

Cleantech Sector – Commercializing clean technologies is a profitable enterprise that is moving steadily into mainstream business. As the world economy faces challenges from energy price spikes, resource shortages, global environmental problems, and security threats, clean technologies are seen to be the next engine of economic growth. The cleantech sector spans across renewable energy (solar, wind, biomass, wave, geothermal), waste management & waste water recycling, energy efficiency and energy storage, environmental pollution control, green building, green transport, green IT, sustainable urban and rural solutions, sustainable manufacturing & logistics, sustainable agriculture, etc. Investments in cleantech have grown considerably since coming into the spotlight around 2000. According to UNEP, by 2018 it is forecast that the three main clean technology sectors, solar photovoltaics, wind power, and biofuels, will have revenues of $325.1bn.

ADB Low Carbon Technology Marketplace (LCTM)

The Cleantech Marketplace Forum provides participating companies the opportunities to tap onto the Asian Development Bank’s Low Carbon Technology Marketplace (LCTM).

As part of the initiatives under ADB’s Climate Technology Network and Finance Centre (CTNFC), the LCTM is set up as a platform to facilitate low carbon technology transfer to the Asia Pacific region, allowing individual company, technology, buyer or seller, the upstream IP or downstream technology solutions, or even the existing or potential platform in the respective economy or region to plug into.

The Marketplace is operating as a “match-making” mechanism, proactively bringing together willing IP and technology buyers and sellers. It would provide various services to help facilitate deals: 1) pre-qualification of counterparties and technologies, including active identification and pitching of deals that could create value for both technology holders and acquirers; 2) deal-structuring and negotiation support; 3) regulatory and legal support in DMCs; 4) advice on dispute resolution procedures; and potentially 5) access to deal financing or even subsidies. The priority countries that this marketplace will be rolled out include China, India, Indonesia, Thailand, etc. More details can be gleaned from the McKinsey Report at http://www.adb.org/documents/reports/consultant/REG/43176/default.asp.
