Smart Cities conference successfully kicks off in Incheon

Commencement of marcus evans Smart Cities conference took place yesterday at the Grand Hyatt Incheon, Korea.

The opening address by Dirk Van Brederode, Programme Manager, Smart City, The Hague, The Netherlands aptly welcomed a host of domestic and international delegates to the event. Subsequently, the Keynote Mayoral Address by Hon. Cho Dong-am, Vice Mayor, Incheon Metropolitan City, South Korea exceptionally set the tone for the event on day one.

New Taipei City’s Deputy Mayor, Yeh Huey-Ching shared valuable insights in our Country Spotlight segment on Taiwan and proceeded to give an excellent presentation on “City Transformation for Smarter and Greater Innovation: A New Taipei City Perspective.”

Following his presentation yesterday, Deputy Mayor Yeh adds “as (we) live in an ICT and big data generation, we shouldn’t (be) afraid of changes and compacts. Actually we could benefit from these, with collaboration and communities’ network; we leverage and transform New Taipei City to be smarter and better city.”

Day two presenters include Stefan Panhuijsen, Head of Policy, Social Enterprise NL , The Netherlands, Dato’ Faris Yahaya, Managing Director, Cyberview Sdn Bhd, Malaysia, Dr. Solahuddin Bin Shamsuddin, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Information Security Officer, CyberSecurity, Malaysia, Kwon Hee-Dong, Deputy Manager, Climate Change – SL Corporation, Ministry of Environment, South Korea, Sarah Wade-Apicella, Programme Officer, UN Office for Disaster Risk, Reduction (UNISDR ONEA -GETI ), South Korea, Dr. Young-Jun Moon, Chief Director, National Transport Technology R&D Center, The Korea Transport Institute (KOTI), William Lau, Principal, A. Alliance Design, Singapore and Ed Baker, Head of Urbanism, Broadway Malyan, Singapore.

The event comes to a close on Wednesday with an exclusive post conference site tour to Songdo International Business District (Songdo IBD). Delegates will experience behind the scenes innovations and smartness of the 6 Songdo Smart City Facilities, such as; G-IFEZ Processing and reuse Facility of the Wastewater, Promotion Centre, IFEZ U-City Operation Centre, Songdo Central Park Automatic Collection Facility of Living Wastes and the Hyundai Premium Outlet.
