FINAL REPORT

Second edition to promote the potential of solar building in Asia achieves excellent feedback

Next Building Solar China takes place from 9 to 12 June 2014 in Guangzhou, China

The second edition of Building Solar China (BSC) - Conference and Exhibition was held at the China Import and Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou, China from 9 – 12 June 2013. Jointly organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd and WIP, BSC took place concurrently with the 18th annual Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition, the largest lighting trade fair in Asia, and with the 10th edition of Guangzhou Electrical Building Technology.

The two-day conference gathered more than 300 experts and professionals from the solar photovoltaic, glass and solar building related industry sectors with government officials,  industry association representatives, architects, engineers and university professors. Six specialised conference sessions, full of interaction with the audience, focused on technologies and applications for smart solar building implementation, including building-integrated photovoltaic systems (BIPV). In the concluding panel, solar building experts addressed in a lively discussion the potential impact of China’s support for distributed power generation on the large scale implementation of solar building applications.

Through the combination of a professional conference with an industry exhibition, Building Solar China offered a comprehensive platform to present, discuss and get updated on the latest trends and applications of smart solar building solutions. This year, the conference featured discussions chaired by prominent experts, including Mr Meng Xiangan, Vice President of China Renewable Energy Society (CRES) and Mr Nikos Fintikakis, Architect and Director of the International Union of Architects (UIA), and Council Member of the Architecture and Renewable Energy Sources (ARES) International Work Programme.

Mr Meng Xiangan stated: “This conference covered the areas of regulation, policy and technology and offered a great networking opportunity. It was also a valuable opportunity for me to share the latest information on PV with industry peers.”

Mr Nikos Fintikakis added: “Building Solar China is an excellent platform for architects and engineers to exchange ideas. This is a crucial occasion for the industry, where our knowledge and experience can be shared with all participants.”

Ms Zhang Nan Nan, Secretary General and Vice President, Shenzhen Solar Energy Society, China: “Building Solar China has brought together a lot of influential experts from all areas of the industry for profound presentations and idea exchange. This is an important platform where future trends can be discovered, and challenges can be discussed.”

For the first time, BSC hosted leading industry players in a dedicated exhibition area to present the latest developments, products and services on solar building technologies and applications. This special industry area was well attended and enjoyed synergies with the BSC Conference and with Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition, Asia’s largest lighting show. Amongst the exhibiting companies were Guangdong Golden Glass Technologies, Shenzen Yingli New Energy Resources and China South Curtain Wall.

Mr Xu Ning, General Manager, China South Curtain Wall, China, exhibitor and presenter at the conference, summarised his show experience: “Our company primarily focuses on the construction of BIPV systems. We came here to meet people from the real estate sector and design institutes. During the four-day show, we successfully got in touch with visitors who would like to discuss further cooperation with us. We felt very satisfied. The conference was definitely helpful to our business development.”

Further voices from participating solar building industry

Ms Linda Zhang, Deputy Chief Engineer at Singyes Solar, China, added: “The interaction during my speech was great! I was impressed that audience members were very professional and qualified.”
