Isabela goes solar energy

Four (4) Power facilities with a total capacity of 375.0 MW Solar PV Power will soon be operational in Isabela Province, Philippines.

This was the announcement of Ruth P Briones, Chair and CEO of Greenergy Solutions Inc. as she disclosed the approval by the Department of Energy (DOE) of Service Contracts of two (2) Solar Projects located in Santa Maria and Cordon, both in Isabela Province.

Briones said DOE Secretary Y. Zenaida Monzada approved the 50.0 MW Solar Energy Project in Cordon and the 125.0 MW Solar Project in Santa Maria. A 100.0 MW Service Contract application for the Ilagan 2 Solar Project is under process at DOE and is expected to be approved early this year.

All three (3) Solar Energy Projects are being developed by Greenergy Solutions Inc. The first 100.0 MW Solar Project in the City of Ilagan, under Living Projects 4 People Philippines Inc. (LP4PP) is ready for construction in March. The four (4) Solar energy facilities with a total capacity of 375.0 MW solar energy will be operational in 2017.

The 50.0 MW Solar Project in Cordon will be constructed and operational in partnership with FirmGreen Phils. Inc. and FirmGreen Energy International Inc. Likewise, the Santa Maria Solar Project will be constructed and financed with a British-Indian partner.

The City of Ilagan is the site of two (2) solar energy projects with a total capacity of 200.0 MW, which will designate the said City as the Solar Energy capital in the Philippines.

Briones said that the combined 375.0 MW Solar Project in Isabela Province when put into operation will provide clean power supply to the Luzon Grid.

Accordingly, the steadily growing consumption and dependency on imported fossil fuels and the worsening impact of climate change in the country have prompted developers to prioritize the development of renewables that will have huge addition to the energy mix.

It was also reiterated that host communities and local government units (LGUs) will be economically, environmentally and socially benefited as the Solar energy facilities will stimulate further private investments with low carbon environmental impacts.

The Greenergy Solutions’ solar energy projects, are registered under the provisions of the country’s Renewable Energy Law under 25-year service contracts which terms granted to the developer and operators fiscal and non-fiscal incentives and privileges.

The said company, Greenergy Solutions Inc. was recently conferred the People’s Choice Award as the No.1 Renewable Energy Company in the Philippines by the National Consumers Awards Foundation and Asia Pacific Awards Council for its involvement in the environment and energy sector in the country.
