Gurīn Energy secures 379 MW in electricity business licences for Jeonnam-Gwangju Solar projects

SEOUL, Wednesday, 19 August 2026 – Leading Asian renewable energy developer Gurīn Energy today announced that it has secured 379 megawatts (MW) of electricity business licences (EBLs) for its three utility-scale solar projects in Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, South Korea, achieving a major milestone in development.

The Jindo Green Solar project, located on Jindo Island, completed its EBL acquisition process, having been awarded 216MW in EBLs earlier this year. The company’s Jindo Jido-yeomjang Solar Power Project, also on Jindo Island, has similarly finished securing the 65MW in EBLs required to deliver the full project capacity.

The third project, Goheung Nuri Solar Power Project, is a ground-mounted solar power project in Goheung-gun which has so far secured 98MW in EBLs, representing half its final planned capacity. The project is co-owned by Gurīn Energy and Korean renewable energy developer Kumyang Green Power, bringing together Gurīn Energy’s renewable energy development expertise and Kumyang’s strong local presence and market knowledge.

The three projects will have a combined capacity of approximately 500MW when completed, generating enough electricity each year to meet the annual consumption of around 200,000 Korean households.

“We are pleased to have secured this major milestone in the development of our three utility-scale solar power projects in Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City. The EBLs awarded by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment reflect Gurīn Energy’s long-term commitment to South Korea as well as our disciplined approach to project development, including regulatory compliance, community engagement, environmental protection and technical design,” said Seongoh Yeom, Representative Director, Seoul, at Gurīn Energy.

The projects are being developed as Jeonnam-Gwangju emerges as a hub for semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) industries, bringing new sources of green electricity to a region with significant industrial potential.

“We believe renewable energy development, as well as the energy transition in Korea more broadly, can play an important role in supporting regional revitalisation. Our goal is not simply to build solar projects, but to become a trusted long-term partner to local governments and communities,” said Yeom.

Unwavering commitment to South Korea’s energy landscape

To date, Gurīn Energy has a portfolio comprising 600MW of solar and wind energy projects in South Korea and continues to expand its presence in the country’s dynamic energy landscape. The company acquired a 300MW portfolio of solar and wind projects in 2025.

Yeom said: “South Korea is a strategic market for us, and we are dedicated to advancing renewable energy initiatives that generate sustainable, long-term value for the Korean people. In particular, our work supports the country’s carbon neutrality goal of increasing renewable energy capacity in the national power generation mix to 100GW by 2030, up from 37GW currently.”

Gurīn Energy’s South Korea projects reflect the company’s mission of accelerating the energy transition in Asia by developing, owning and operating solar, wind and energy storage assets throughout the region.

The company is helmed by Assaad Razzouk, Chief Executive Officer of Gurīn Energy and a long-standing advocate of the clean energy transition in Asia.

“The energy transition is one of the defining challenges and opportunities of our generation – not only to address the ongoing climate crisis but also to mitigate the national security risk of acute dependencies on volatile and often unreliable imports of fossil fuels,” said Razzouk. “South Korea is accelerating its energy transformation and we are committed to working with the government, businesses and communities to do what we can to build, together, a sustainable future for all.”
