BASF again named one of China’s Top 100 green companies

At the China Green Companies Summit 2014, held in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region from April 20 to 22, 2014, BASF was again named one of “China’s Top 100 Green Companies”.

This marks the seventh year in a row BASF has been recognized for its leadership in this category. The cross-sector ranking was initated by China Entrepreneur Club (CEC), a coalition of the most influential private sector business leaders in China and is held annually to correspond with the international Earth Day (April 22).

Green companies, as defined by the CEC, are enterprises that are ecologically and economically superior, and strive for sustainable, profitable growth. A total of 100 companies from various segments across the nation were selected as China Green Companies this year based on five indicators concerning corporate culture, economic strength, environment protection, society and innovation.

BASF was recognized for its contribution to the society, especially for its unique “1+3” Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project where it successfully brings together partners along the supply chain, including customers, suppliers, and logistics service providers, to committed to responsible business operations. This business model for sustainable supply chain management gives space for small enterprises to act responsibly as they form the bulk of the industrial space in China.

At the Summit, BASF spoke at the session on “Green Growth: environmental issues and emerging business opportunities”, where entrepreneurs from various sectors discussed how companies should join forces with its supply chain partners in response to the rising environmental challenges while sustaining the economic growth.

“The good news is Chinese companies are closer to these challenges of sustainability issues and thus more convinced to take on this journey of green transformation,” said Johnny Kwan, Senior Vice President, Country Platform and Functions, BASF Greater China, “At BASF, we value innovation as an important driver to create more ideas and actions with our partners and stakeholders to build cross-industry capacity for a sustainable future.”

Under the theme of “An Era of Transformation: Reality and Aspirations”, the summit brought together over 1,000 domestic and international business leaders and elites from various areas to discuss and discover new challenges and opportunities for companies in this period of comprehensive reform.

Co-organized by Nanning Municipal Government, the event was supported by China Enterprise Confederation, United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), China International Council for the Promotion of Multinational Corporations, Comité France Chine (CFC) together with a number of embassies from European and Asian countries.
