Purifying quarry water, solar way

In an effort to resolve the imminent acute drinking water woes this summer, the district administration has been actively considering a solar energy-based project to purify water in granite quarries.

District collector P.I. Sheikh Pareeth has asked assistant collector G.R. Gokul to submit a report after evaluating the project proposal submitted by Dr C.V. Nair, managing director of an Australian company.

As per the project proposal, water from quarries can be purified using solar power, thus saving a considerable amount of electricity, which makes it economically viable. After the initial purification, water quality will be improved using reverse osmosis. Later, water will be disinfected using ultraviolet rays.
