Pakistan will continue to be exposed to risks of flooding and drought in the years to come, said a UN official in a Q&A. Joseph D’Cruz, regional adviser for environment of the United Nations Development Programme, Asia-Pacific Regional Centre, said that Pakistan’s vulnerability to flooding and droughts in the past are indicative of what is to come as global climate change continues to increase the variability of the world’s climate. He said the best way for Pakistan to tackle these risks is to improve its resilience of infrastructure and to improve local capacity to predict disastrous weather events through early warning systems.
