MB offers Ho Chi Minh City solar technology

Meyer Burger Technology AG (MB), a world leader in photovoltaics, has expressed a desire to sell solar technology and equipment to Ho Chi Minh City.

The local partner of the Swiss group is Technological Application & Production (TECAPRO) Ltd Co., belonging to the Ministry of Defense of Vietnam.

Via an introduction by the Swiss Embassy in Hanoi, HCMC’s vice chairman Le Manh Ha on Tuesday met Peter Pauli, chief executive officer of Swiss Solar Systems, an arm of MB operating as a provider of solar systems.

At the meeting, Pauli made a presentation about the benefits of renewable energy as well as the market’s potential. At the same time, Pauli offered the city a cost-effective production line worth US$12 million.

Ha said the city was looking to develop a market of renewable energy products and it had gradually improved policies to appeal to foreign investors. However, what the city has achieved so far is just a starting point and it needs more support of technology and capital from foreign investors.

According to Ha, renewable energy like wind and solar power requires huge sums of capital, thus discouraging the authorities from boosting its development.

Ha has assigned the city’s Department of Science and Technology, along with Dong Nam Industrial Park’s management under the Vietnam Rubber Group, to continue working with MB for a specific cooperation scheme.
