Desalination plant to address water woes in Chennai

The upcoming second desalination plant at Nemmeli along the East Coast Road will be commissioned in February. It aimed to address the looming water shortage in the city.

In the past few years, the city has received insufficient rainfall and water supply in the reservoirs, which cater to the drinking water needs. It has dipped by 52 per cent of their capacity.

It was reported that the units in the desalination plant is being inspected and tested, including those containing disc filters and ultra filtration membranes, which would remove the suspended solids in the sea water.
