CDA chief orders smooth water supply

Chairman Capital Development Authority Engineer Farkhand Iqbal Wednesday directed the water management wing of the Authority to ensure smooth and regular water supply to residents of the federal capital.

Talking to a delegation of the residents of sector I-10 here in connection with the water shortage in the area, Chairman CDA said that the main reason of water shortage is consistent power outage that causes interruption in water supply to the residents.

“We are in contact with the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) to resolve the issues of power outage and alternative means for water supply from other channels,” the chairman said.

He said the CDA is introducing energy efficient tube wells with the cooperation of USAID and work on the project has already been initiated to convert the outdated tube-well pumps into the energy efficient water pumps.

He said the new water supply pumps save approximately 2 MW electricity from the national grid.

Chairman CDA said the Authority has recently invited the services of private water tankers to meet the requirements of water supply on urgent basis.

He said the CDA has also signed an agreement with Chinese companies for a supply of water from Ghazi Barotha water channel to the twin cities.

Farkhand Iqbal said the CDA would install a power plant to make Islamabad load-shedding free city.

Moreover, the CDA was working on several projects including rapid bus transit project and extension of railway track from sector I-9 to 9th Avenue, adding that he would soon visit in Sector I-10 and I-9 to resolve the outstanding issues and provide missing facilities.
