The Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) is an economic area bound together by the Mekong River. It covers 2.6m sq km, with a combined GDP of c. USD1t and a population of more than 300m. The GMS countries are Cambodia, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), Myanmar, Vietnam, the People’s Republic of China (PRC, specifically Yunnan Province and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region), and Thailand. Being one of the most dynamic areas in the world, the GMS regional market has achieved great progress in economic development and social stability for the past few decades.
Advancement of an adequate electricity supply and connectivity is required. The abundance of energy resurces combined with the lack of power generation offers immense business opportunites to invest in region’s energy sector. Conventional generation methods like thermal and hydropower, along with alternative sources like solar and wind, are all sought and carefully planned for. However, challenges in terms of power market liberalization and effiency management have yet to be addressed, leaving much discrepancy to identify ideal practices to fully tap into the potential of this land.
3rd GMS Convention: 3rd GMS Power Week is the BIGGEST Power event in GMS. In the past 3 annuals, GMS event was strongly supported by Ministry of Energy and has attracted 1,000+ participants from key industrial players contributing knowledge and expertise to support the development of GMS’s booming Power sector.
3rd annual GMS Power Week 2016 is coming back in June 2016 with key focus on the development opportunities. The event proves itself as a perfect networking platform for industrial players to looking for business development opportunities and to identify reliable partners to expand in GMS.
