Michael Vardon

Michael Vardon is an expert in environmental accounting and has been collecting and analysing data for more than 20 years. His initial studies and career focused on the studies of animal population dynamics but the focus shifted when he moved to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) in 2000 where he worked on wide range of environmental topics including land management, water and environmental accounting. He became the Director of the the Centre of Environmental Accounting in 2005, a position he left in 2014, with secondments to the United Nations 2007-2009 and to the Bureau of Meteorology 2012-13.

He is currently researching and teaching environmental accounting at the Australian National University. He is a member of the Policy and Technical Expert Committee of the World Bank's Wealth Accounting and Valuation of Ecosystem program and was a member of the Editorial Board of the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting.
