Christine Cole

Dr Christine Cole is a Research Fellow in Product Lifetimes.

Working within the Centre for Industrial Energy, Materials and Products (CIE-MAP), Christine is currently working on designing for product longevity, exploring issues surrounding repair and reuse.

Christine is a Chartered Waste Manager and Chartered Environmentalist. She has worked in local authority waste management and has had a variety of roles in the waste management area in both private and public sectors working with Local Authorities, contractors and in consultancy prior to joining NTU (in 2015).

Christine's EngD at Loughborough University was a collaborative project sponsored by Charnwood Borough Council and Serco. The research explored sustainable waste management solutions and investigated a Local Authority approach to Zero Waste. This mapped policy development, contract procurement, engagement with stakeholders and householder behaviour towards waste management. As a result of this work, the sponsoring organisations implemented changes to the household waste collection service, which resulted in a rise in the recovery of recyclable materials and top quartile results for the Local Authority.
