Heliatek GmbH, the technology leader in the field of organic solar films, has won the silver ECO12 Award during this year’s Ecosummit in Berlin. Selected by an expert jury, the prize of €5,000 (silver) is awarded to the most promising startups and young companies in the cleantech sector.
A total of 52 startups and young companies from nine countries were nominated for the Ecosummit Award 2012. The jury was impressed by Heliatek’s next generation of photovoltaic technology. The transparent, lightweight, and flexible solar films based on organic semiconductors are much more versatile in their use compared to traditional photovoltaic products. With this smart technology solution, Heliatek wants to be instrumental in establishing environmentally-friendly solar energy as a widespread, commonplace technology.
“We are very pleased to have received the silver ECO12 Award as well as proud that the jury was impressed by our cleantech company. This gives us an extra boost going into our next round of financing this year, during which we should raise €50 million from current and new investors for an additional production line,” comments Thibaud Le Séguillon, CEO of Heliatek.
The Ecosummit Award’s 53-member expert jury is composed of representatives from cleantech companies, large corporations, utility companies, the media, and various service providers. Jury members come from leading companies such as E.ON, RWE Effizienz, Centrotherm, ABB, Bloomberg New Energy Finance, Cisco, and Wirtschaftswoche (a German weekly business news magazine).
Jan Michael Hess, CEO of Ecosummit, explained the jury’s decision: “Heliatek is one of the best cleantech startups in Germany. The expert jury for our Ecosummit Award 2012 was impressed by the commercial potential of organic photovoltaics. The unique technology, the management team, and the milestones already achieved bode well for Heliatek’s future.”
