Fuji Electric Announces the 7200BX Series Uninterruptible Power System (UPS) for Asia

Tokyo, April 24, 2013 - Fuji Electric Co., Ltd. (TSE:6504) announces the release of its 7200BX Series uninterruptible power system (UPS) equipped with Fuji Electric’s own power semiconductor technology (IGBT) for sales to the Asian markets.

1. Background/Purpose

The demand for UPS has increased in recent years in Asia as a source of backup power for power outages on production lines and for IT equipment. It is estimated that the market for UPS in Asia for the 10 kVA to 500 kVA range is worth more than 90 billion yen and that the growth of this market is around 10% a year.

Fuji Electric developed the 7200BX Series to meet needs specific to Asian markets. It will be produced at Fuji Electric Power Supply, located in Thailand.

2. Features

(1) Easy to Expand UPS Capacity

Fuji Electric has configured this UPS Series for flexible expansion. Customers can easily increase capacity by building power units (20 kVA per unit) for up to 200 kVA in capacity. This will help customers keep initial investment at a minimum by allowing them to expand later on as the need for increased capacity emerges.(2) Increase Overall Efficiency to Reduce Power Consumption

By utilizing its own original AT-NPC3 (new 3-level) IGBT,1 Fuji Electric has realized a total efficiency of up to 97%. This achievement has reduced the amount of power loss, increasing energy savings. In addition, there is an option for controlling the load current in the configurations of power units of 40 kVA or greater to further improve the total efficiency when operating under low load conditions.

For a more reliable UPS unit (as shown on figure 1), power modules simply need to be configured in a redundant configuration. In addition, up to four UPS units can be configured in parallel (for increased capacity), then by adding one more unit (4+1), the system can made redundant (as shown on figure 2).

3. Applications

Mission critical systems in Internet data centers (IDC), offices, telecommunications and service sectors
