Climate friendly recognised for its climate change leadership

Last night NSW Green Globe Awards recognised sustainability leaders in New South Wales Australia for 2013. We are delighted to announce that Climate Friendly won the award for Climate Change Leadership. This is a fantastic recognition and a great time to stop and reflect on our achievements as we approach our ten year anniversary this November.

Since our inception we have worked with individuals, small businesses and large corporations worldwide to prevent over two and a half million tonnes of greenhouse gases from being released into the atmosphere. This equates to over 13 million economy flights between Sydney and Melbourne.

We could not have achieved this milestone without our clients and partners such as WWF and South Pole Carbon. Recent examples of our achievements include:

- Developing GoldPowerTM global Renewable energy product with WWF and significant other organisations’ support. More info here

- Creating our proprietary FlightPortalTM automated offset system for corporate air travel

- Expanding the uptake of the SocialCarbon standard into new geographical areas

We are also very active in reducing our own emissions. Climate Friendly has decreased its emissions by nearly 38 tonnes from last year. We have lowered our flight emissions by almost 33 tonnes by installing a new teleconferencing system and creating Skype accounts for all staff. As this is our biggest source of emissions it is great to see we are reducing our emissions where it matters most.

Furthermore, we have opened two new offices in Melbourne and London; this will help decrease our air travel emissions even more. Climate Friendly has offset the total amount of its staff emissions for the year and its own emissions through the Mungcharoen Biomass Project in Thailand, a great project that creates electricity from waste rice husks.
