South Solok’s geothermal potential to be exploited in 2011

South Solok Regent Muzni Zakaria said the people of the regency will be comprehensively familiarized with the exploitation of geothermal potential in Pinang Awan, Pauh Duo, starting in January 2011.

“The geothermal familiarization will start following a discussion of the regional budget of 2011 in January,” he said here on Tuesday.

The geothermal project will become a source of electricity for South Solok, West Sumatera province, as well as for Riau and Jambi.

The project, which will cost trillions of rupiah, will also provide employment to the people of South Solok and provide a good opportunity for the transfer of scientific knowledge.

“While royalty amounts only to Rp35 billion, it is to be shared by the central government and provincial administration,” he said.

In the meantime, the regent said, a mapping project will be renewed focusing specifically on the abundant mining potential in South Solok.
