Construction on wind power plant started in central province

The PetroVietnam Power Corporation and EPC contractor on November 26 began construction on a wind power plant on Phu Quy Island in central province of Binh Thuan.

The plant is located in Long Hai and Ngu Phung communes with a total investment of more than VND335 billion (US$16.75 million).

It will have a capacity of 6MW, including three 2MW turbines, with an annual electricity output of about 25.4 million Kwh.

The plant which is expected to open in February 2011 will operate together with a diesel-power plant now located on the island.

The project will help ease the current power shortage on the island and help the socio-economic development of the island, according to local authorities.
